He's taken the best elements from the best science fiction stories and added his own unique twist on it all. I had to force myself to put it down so I could get some sleep!I loved the ensemble of characters. Their interactions felt believable, which drew me in even further. So much so that I was genuinely surprised at the plot twist. I also loved the new technology that was introduced. They were original yet founded i. A new take on an old genre! Sci-FI has been played out like an opera in many different fashions, from the mainstream television and movie universes of Star Wars and Star Trek, to off the beaten path worlds of Firefly and Dune. Most often when readers compare a new story from a new author, these staples in Sci-FI stand as a foundation to judge from. In the case of the Shattered Expanse universe, the genre takes a slightly different and refreshing approach to interplanetary storytelling. Neumiller's approach is. Dietz's Bounty Hunter series or John Scalzi as well as the many other works that had been mentioned here. This guy evokes a sense that he loves the genre in his writing. The characters suck you in. Definitely going to be watching for more of his work.
