Excellent - though relentless - view from the trenches I enjoyed reading this very well written description of the detail of a soldiers life in the first World War, and largely in the trenches. Frank Richards makes quite a point of the fact although offered, he refused any promotion in order to remain "one of the lads" and he wanted to be able to fraternize with his mates. The relentless horror of being surrounded on all sides by death and destruction was beginning wear me down towards the end..
