Eyeopening--and frightening Although I knew some bad things happened during the flooding of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina—the murder of several innocent blacks by cops comes to mind—I never knew just how complete the breakdown of civil liberties was. Zeitoun is an account of that breakdown, and it presents a frightening portrayal of the Kafkaesque circumstance hundreds or thousands of ordinary, law-abiding citizens found themselves in&mdas. "A new perspective on a horrible tradegy." according to Marissa E. Paltz. This inside perspective was very fascinating to me after only hearing what the media provided publicly. My daughter was a senior at Tulane when Katrina hit and she evacuated home to Southeast Texas - then Ike hit. I understand PTSD first-hand. The middle-eastern culture stressing over their missing brother/cousin was very intense; as was Karen Zeitoun's stress leaving him behind and evacuating with their children. The character d.
