One Palestine, Complete; is anything but complete Matthew Smith I read this book a few years ago, and when I finished it I didn't feel that I could write an informed review. The book really left me with a lot of questions and very few answers. The book is rich with detail, well-researched, and beautifully written. There is enough in there to anger both militant Zionists and Palestinian nationalists, which, in my opinion, signifies a balanced appraisal.. "Nice Trees, No Forest" according to Jeff Lipkes. This is a colorful montage of various people's experiences under the British Mandate. Lots of intriguing characters and entertaining stories. The unpublished letters and journals Segev draws on, as well as published memoirs, are mostly by relatively obscure Arabs, Jews, and Brits--and this is the book's greatest strength. But you'll have to look elsewhere if you're interested in a competent description and analysis of British rule. Segev apparently couldn't be bothered to do much background reading on British politics. When he strays from his diaries and memories, he blunders repeatedly. Lloyd George, he writes, was an "Englishman"
