Dan Sebestyen said A wonderful mix of storytelling and atmosphere.. So, i've been hearing a lot about John Langan in the circles of weird literature, and picked up A Wide Carnivorous Sky. I am enjoying it, and admittedly haven't finished it yet, but i was anxiously awaiting The Fisherman. It's difficult to find well written, full length novels of weird fiction these days, with mostly everything being either anthologies compiled by passionate Editors, or themed collections of a single authors stories, i.e. Laird Barron, Michael Ligotti, Brian Evenson, Michael Wehunt. I was really looking forward to seeing someone tackle a novel length sub. Bizarre Narrative Choice Does Not Hamper An Excellent Story Amazon Customer Minor Spoilers AheadCosmic Horror is hit or miss for me. I adore Lovecraft, but I acknowledge that much of his writing suffers from a generic narrator (Male academic) and a vagueness of description ("A creature too terrible to describe"), deficiencies (In my opinion) that are still being emulated today. Of course, Cosmic Horror can be great despite the narrator, and when used well the vagueness of description can be effective and unsettling. Too often, however, I find that a lot of the Cosmic Horror I read falls into these trappings. Not so with The Fisherman. The main ch. Not often do come across a fantastic tale such as this, wow! I was totally immersed in the detail of the characters, the environment and the grand scale of the world Langan has created. I truly had a tough time putting this book down, just when you think no way can he spin another ounce of yarn, the stakes raise considerably taking you on an amazingly dark ride, filled with creepy nooks at each page turn. The Fisherman is crafted in writing style that is only found in classic literature. This goes down as my favorite book of 2016, Hats off!

It will bring Abe and Dan face to face with all that they have lost, and with the price they must pay to regain it.. Soon, though, the men find themselves drawn into a tale as deep and old as the Reservoir. It's a tale of dark pacts, of long-buried secrets, and of a mysterious figure known as Der Fisher: the Fisherman. Steep-banked, fast-moving, it offers the promise of fine fishing, and of something more, a possibility too fantastic to be true. When Abe and Dan, two widowers who have found solace in each other's company and a shared passion for fishing, hear rumors of the Creek, and what might be found there, the remedy to both their losses, they dismiss it as just another fish story. In upstate New York, in the woods around Woodstock, Dutchman's Creek flows out of the Ashokan Reservoir
