What made me consider atheism a couple years ago was when I read Kai Nielsen's "Atheism & Philosophy", more specifically his chapter on the Defense of Atheism. Kai Nielsen argues that to be an Atheist, one does not need to assert that the proposition "God exists" is plainly false or insufficiently plausible to be true. Atheism does not have to be based on evidentialism, in which the insufficient evidence for the existence of God renders the belief unwarranted, hence reasonable to reject.
